How long have you served as a House Mom?
A little over three years.
What do you do in this role?I find this role changes a bit with each new group of girls that come through. Some groups like sports or playing games (like skip-o or board games). They all seem to enjoy diamond art. I go with then to used bookstores and watch them dream at Petland. I also help with birthday parties which always bring lots of smiles. I try to be a friend and show them that they can trust me.
What do you like about serving as a House Mom?Serving in this role has taught me how to love beyond what I thought I could. Each child is different, and some are harder to reach out to than others. Some don't want anything to do with you at first. Some days I ask God why I am here, and others He fills my heart with such joy.
Do you have a story or two you'd like to share that would give people a glimpse into what you do?The biggest God moment I can share is when a girl who did not want to be touched reached out and hugged me. Everyone there kind of froze for a moment. I knew it was a touch of God for the both of us. God was letting me know why I was there.
